McCamish Pavilion is a state of the art basketball facility and the new home of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. The original steel roof structure is the only remaining element of this circa 1950s building. In order to preserve this artifact a ramp was built down to the court level to provide access for dump trucks, cranes and earth moving equipment required for reinforcing the existing structure and erecting the new steel for the upper level seats. This work had to be completed on an accelerated schedule to allow the rest of the finish work in the bowl and on the court to be completed on time. The Pavilion received LEED Gold certification, continuing the campuses’ goal to be environmentally friendly. The design-build project was completed in a little less than 18 months, on time for the 2012-2013 basketball season. This project received the CMAA South Atlantic Chapter Project Achievement Award for 2013.
