Kennedy Space Center
SG Contracting Inc. was selected as the general contractor for a $100 million home for Atlantis Space Shuttle. The facility will be the marquee element of the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex’s and Delaware North Companies Parks and Resorts’ $400 million 10-year master revitalization plan. Designs for the 65,000 square-foot home for the last space-flown orbiter include viewing the space shuttle in flight, showing how the spacecraft worked in space, and providing a unique vantage point for guests to look at the complex vehicle up-close. The project was completed in the summer of 2013.
Complementing the orbiter display are interactive features including the Hubble Space Telescope and the International Space Station. At the entrance to the Atlantis exhibit is a full-size upright replica of the external fuel tank and solid rocket boosters. In addition to the Orbiter Facility, a $15 million dollar ticketing and entry project was constructed simultaneously.
